Event review: Jozi Film Festival panel discussion

Different Workflows at the Jozi Film Festival

On the 22nd of February 2014, SAGE was part of a day of master classes in conjunction with the Jozi Film Festival. In this discussion, we had David Max Brown and Megan Gill S.A.G.E. as the speakers, moderated by Stephen Abbott.

The discussion centred around the technical aspects of getting a feature production completed. David Max Brown spoke of his experience editing the documentary feature “Bag on my Back”, which was showing at the festival; and Megan Gill spoke of her past experience on narrative features.

The conversation also included points on scheduling and how this can affect creativity and vice versa. Key points also included how working on non-linear software allows for far more “versions” of the cut, but also that this doesn’t mean the editing process take less time (as many assume).

Overall, an informative discussion, in which those who attended got to ask some pertinent questions.

Our original plan was to video this panel discussion as part of a new events video strategy, but a technical glitch on our side prevented this from working. Nates Video Hire very kindly sponsored the cameras and sound equipment.
